Nokia 5130 iSync Plugin Snow Leopard

Today I bought a new phone only to discover it's not supported by isync.

So I have made my own plugin. I've seen a few forums with people who want to get their Nokia 5130 to work with isync.

The plugin should be put into /Library/PhonePlugins/
If the folder doesn't exist create it.

This probably only works on snow leopard (10.6). You could try 10.5 but no promises.

Enjoy!

UPDATE (13/12/2009):
It seems the birthday and photo fields can cause some problems. My phone has contacts that would sync fine one time and not the next.

I have tried to fix this but can't se what is wrong, especially as it changes each time i sync. Strange.

So what I have done is prepare 3 versions of the plugin (this time with installers, so no confusion over which to use).

Full Version:
Includes all contact details that the phone supports
Download Here

Normal Version:
Excludes Birthday and Photo fields
Download Here

Basic version:
Only has email and phone numbers
Download Here

Let me know in comments which version works for you. I use the normal version, because the full version works sometimes, but frustratingly not all the time.

UPDATE (23/03/2010):
Unfortunately this is no longer working for me and i have no idea why. Great that some of you have had some luck. Apologies to the rest of you. I have tries to fix it but have decided it must be a problem with the phone (maybe the reason it wasn't supported in the first place). I'll keep try to get it working but dont know how much luck i'll have.

Hopefully it still works for you!

  4. Worked great. Thanks a lot!

The only minor issue I had: I didn't know at first were to put the plugin in since there are three libraries (user / system / other system library).

  5. Very glad that you decided working on this issue. But similar problem: my synching stops at 40 % ....

  6. Actually works on 10.5.8, BUT! iSync refuses to sync a few contacts on every first sync, and the funny thing is, it's not the same contacts, but some new ones every time.... Damn...

  7. It is working flawlessly...thanks.

  8. Is the 5130 the same phone as 5130c-2 ? Do I need a different plugin for 5130c-2 than for 5130?

    ReplyDelete
  9. the 5130c-2 is the same thing.

Also, i am working on getting a better version done. As I have started having a few issues as well

  10. Would it be posible that iphoto (and maybe itunes) detect the phone as a camera/ device for faster sync...
(used to be posible in 10.5 when modifiing the the plist from a higher$ phone)

Thanks for this plug in, been waiting for weeks! This is great work!

  11. Hi,
The full version works! But I had to delete all contacts from the phone and had to reset the device via iSync.
But how do I get my appointments from Outlook 2007 to Address Book? Or can I import all events from my phone?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Opps. I do not mean the address book, but iCal.

  14. Hi,

Thanks for the library. I tried the full version, but iSync complained about 1 contact (myself actually) not being able to transfer. It is also the only contact with a photo. I then tried tried the 'normal' version, but no success either for the contact with a photo. Should I first remove the full version before installing the normal one? How should that be done?

    OS X 10.6.2, isync 3.1.0

    thanks in advance,
    -Jeroen.

  15. try doing a "Reset Device". that will erase all contacts on the phone and resync.

The installer will overwrite another version. To check for your self look in /Library/PhonePlugins.

Could also try removing the device and readding it.

Or you just remove your picture for the first sync.

  16. Thanks a lot! It worked for me, I just needed to sync the addressbook so I used the basic version.

  17. I just updated my Mac to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) from Tiger (10.4.11), which broke my previous Nokia 5310 compatibility. I'm not sure where I got it, but it was a different 3rd party Nokia 5310 plugin. Now I've tried to install the one on this page (the full plugin) and iSync says that "This device is not supported by iSync." I've restarted, too. Any ideas?

  18. Solved my own problem I suppose. I got the plugin from http://pyxx.org/nokia-5310-xpressmusic-isync-plugin/ and it recognized the phone. Now I'm dealing with a problem I've been having since before my upgrade to Snow Leopard: iSync goes through the sync to a particular percentage, then the sync hangs. It gives me the error message "There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been canceled on the phone." Any help would be appreciated!

  21. Not working for me on snow leopard. Tried resetting device via isync. Won't that go through either. I've deleted the device and readded it and reset sync history. I've tried to replace all info from device with info on mac. Still nothing. I get the same error everyone else is getting. Thanks for trying.

  25. I looked great, but in the end, the normal version couldn't sync some random contacts (about 40). So I'll have to go back to the incomplete solution I was using http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2024008&tstart=0 hope you can improve your plugin.

  26. Great this plugin works under macosx 10.4.11 (tiger)
but you must insert it under
    /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns --> /ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns

    and adjust the permission

  27. Hi Will,

Thanks for writing both of these plugins, thinking about grabbing a 5130 and wanted to ensure it's sync with address book, glad you've done the work already.

Looks like iPhoto rolled your plugin into iPhoto 09 a while back, cause it syncs nicely all by itself now, but it was weird that it didn't on day one, and it's clever of you to write something new.

I'm curious about your tools, since you've obviosly got a 5130, does that compliment an ipod touch, are you against iphones because of the monthly commitment, do you not need internet everywhere, or what is going on?

Thanks for any light you can shed, you're obviously pretty darn busy.

  39. Does not work so good anymore. The first sync was just Mac > Nokia. Then, after I deleted all the previous data from the cell phone, the sync doesn't work anymore. It just starts Nokia > Mac sync, and it stops at 52%.
    Thanks anyway :)

Any idea of how to UNINSTALL this plugin?

I'm going to try this one: http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html
